Savannah’s Fall Senior Photos

When I was in high school, I took senior pictures of many of my friends – it sparked a lot of my love for portrait photography in general! After working many years in retail with high school and college students, those young adults hold a very special space in my heart. There’s just something so beautiful about focusing on personal growth and becoming your own person.

As I’ve grown within my craft, I’ve never stopped loving working with high school juniors and seniors on their photos. It’s easy to fall into the idea that senior portraits all need to look the same, and that’s just not true. I am all about the non-traditional senior photos – these should reflect the human and their own personality and style!

Savannah’s senior session was all about a laid back vibe and including her pup, Korra. We picked Willow River State Park near Hudson, Wisconsin because we knew the leaves would be in full color for the changing season, but it was getting just cold enough that it wouldn’t be too busy.

While most visitors focus on Willow River’s cascading Willow Falls (which is absolutely gorgeous, but often crowded), we wanted to our backdrop to be different than most other people’s. We ventured over to Little Falls Lake and the damn farther up from the Falls and focused our shoot there.

Savannah’s outfit was casual and cozy, which was perfect for our vibe. She wore distressed, light wash jeans and a striped, knit sweater that matched the changing leaves. We explored the woods while the sun was still high, and then used an unassuming boat launch as our second photo spot. The boat launch had large, angular rocks all around that were easy to get to without getting into the water.

As the sun set behind the tree line, we went to the small beach for the last of our portraits. The sunset was hazy and beautiful, the tree colors were perfect, and Korra was all about giving Savannah a hundred kisses on her face. The moments just after sunset, often called Blue Hour, are some of my favorite photos from Savannah’s senior photo session.
